Epic Tank Fillers

  • Epic (defined on dictionary.com)1. noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style. 2. resembling or suggesting such poetry. 3. heroic; majestic; impressively great. 4. of unusually great size or extent. 5. spectacular; very impressive; awesome
  • Tank Fillers (in my opinion)Events, exercises and/or practices that positively shift, elevate, refresh, and/or rejuvenate a state of well-being. (For example, sleep is my number one tank filler.)
  • Epic Tank Fillers (also in my opinion)Doing something spectacularly new and/or extraordinary that reenergizes, revitalizes and honors my mind, body and soul.

In January, I had this idea (among many) that I would make the conscious effort to set one “epic tank filler” per month that would take me out of my own comfort zone. I wanted to do something new once a month, maybe start a new practice or travel somewhere new. I had this urge and desire to do something to keep growing, expanding, discovering, and exploring life as I’m experiencing it.

So in January, I started my first epic tank filler in the form of creativity and memory keeping. I decided to commit to the practice of documenting our year as a family with the Project Life App by Becky Higgins. For the past 4 years I loved this system in the physical form (buying a boxed set of journaling cards, albums and pocket page protectors), followed by creating pages digitally via Photoshop and then printing said pages at home for my pocket pages. In the end, I never finished them. I would start and then stop mid-year as I got too busy with the little ones. This year I’m using the app on my phone and so far it has been nothing short of amazing! Since I mostly take all my photos on my phone anyway, it has been much easier to create weekly pages quickly and with ease. I feel so accomplished after I’ve finished a weekly spread! I’m now really looking forward to having a completed album by December.

This month (February), I fulfilled another epic tank filler in the form of trying something new. I got a pontoon boat license in a nearby marina and drove a boat out to the Kaneohe Sandbar here on Oahu (Google it. It is gorgeous!). Driving a boat with the cool Hawaiian breeze in my face and a stunning view of the Ko’olau mountains and turquoise waters ahead was just breathtaking. At the sandbar, I even tried SUP (Stand Up Paddling) for the first time…while actually standing up! Needless to say, this day was definitely one fun epic tank filler for me!

Now that I’ve got two epic tank fillers down I have got 10 more to go. At year’s end, I plan on summarizing this year of epic tank fillers in a future blog post (with pictures) so stay tuned. In the meantime, I would like to hear from you! I want to know your suggestions. Comment below to the question, “What do you consider are your epic tank fillers?” Maybe you will see one of yours on my list to do this year (wink! wink!).

Until next time…cheers to epic tank fillers!
