Day 4: Digital Design

Here’s Day 4 of my 7 Day Make to Create challenge.

Digital design and/or graphic design, is where I dwell most of my time in. Playing with photography, font and layouts are those I play around with most. Creating signage, invitations and social media posts are so fun and easy to make. There’s also something unique and heartfelt when I make digital cards from the heart and are greatly received when given out.

I was first introduced to this field when I started following modern memory keepers, Ali Edwards and Cathy Zielske. They taught me how to use photoshop to document our life via photos and stories using the computer over physical products like paper and embellishments (which they also encourage calling it “hybrid scrapbooking”). It was a game changer for myself when I learned how to create my own memory keeping pages on my computer vs. physically cutting and pasting my past developed photos and embellishments by hand. Then came Becky Higgins’ Project Life app where I take my photos straight from my camera roll and create pages on my phone on the go.

So naturally in preparation for Teacher Appreciation week next week, I decided to make a simple Thank You postcard that my son will write on and hand out to his teacher and aides next week.

Here’s what I made:

To create this image, you can use Photoshop, Canva, or any collage and text app downloaded to your phone. Just plug in your photos and text with your choice of colored background and your good! For this image, I actually used a desktop app called, RelayThat. They have some good stock images, fonts, and layouts for social media posts and more. Note: I believe this app does not work on mobile devices.

I’m still deciding on adding my son’s photo to this collage so his teachers have a photo for sentimental reasons. Or I’ll stick with the image above. Nonetheless, it will still be from the heart as I plan on having my son handwrite his personal thank you on the back to go with a gift for his teachers.

What do you think?

And that’s Day 4 in the books! I’m having fun creating something everyday! How about you? Comment below on what you’re creating these days!

Happy Creating!
